The Second Wave American Album Facebook Page is the next step in a series of albums that I have created to document women in America. The American Album of 1985 is now part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, DC).
The jumpstart for this effort are the papers, pictures and memorabilia of my personal archives of my activities as a femnist activist during the exciting 1970s and early 1980s. The boxes in my studio testify that I kept everything. Its time to bring it out, talk about those days and hopefully prompt many others to share their stories and pictures here too.
Many of us are already gone -- and so are their stories. It's up to the rest of us to gather the stories for our daughters and for young women everywhere.
The Second Wave of the 1970s was a large, grass roots effort. History books tell only a fraction of the story.
Let's collect the bits and pieces of our own stories to create a richer quilt.
Even if you weren't actively engaged, some woman in your life was. Just ask them. You can tell her story here, too. If you have a question, ask it here. We'll try to answer.
